pay the piper

Today during my research I found this postcard, which Wikipedia, a very reliable source, tells me reads “Greetings from Hamelin.”

Hello there, dear friend, from the land of rats and abducted children!  I hope you’re enjoying your summer vacation.  I know that we are loving the scenery here in small-town Germany, especially the looming silhouette of a giant crag that, legend tells us, swallowed 130 children and a costumed, hypnotic musician in the thirteenth century.  We thought you would enjoy this whimsical depiction of the scene.  Don’t his pantaloons look authentic?

Give our love to the kids!
